Scientist I Therapeutic Discovery

We are seeking a PhD level scientist to join a new program at the Allen Institute for Brain Science to develop and test new therapeutic AAVs to treat brain disorders including severe forms of epilepsy using a novel AAV-based cell type-specific expression system. This person will lead efforts to generate or identify new AAV capsids to facilitate brain delivery of therapeutic AAV viral vectors in non-human primates and humans.

We are seeking a scientist with a background in the virology and neuroscience. They will be responsible for working on a collaborative team to conduct experiments designed to identify naturally occurring neurotropic AAVs from human tissue as well as screen for mutated AAV capsids that improve the efficiency of targeting neurons throughout the primate brain and could be suitable for gene therapy applications. This individual must be excited by the prospect of joining a team-science environment at the Allen Institute for Brain Science to help develop new gene therapies for brain diseases.
