Principal Product Manager, Data Integration – Neural Dynamics

Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.

The Allen Institute has been a leader in the field of neuroscience for over 17 years; in 2021 we are launching a new research division, the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics, to understand how dynamic neuronal signals at the level of the entire brain implement fundamental computations and drive flexible behaviors.

We seek an experienced, user-oriented Principal Product Manager to maximize the impact of the data and tools produced by Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics. The ideal candidate will have practical experience with the complexities of collecting and analyzing large, multimodal biological data sets. Engaging deeply with both internal and external community stakeholders is essential to success in our Open Science mission. We seek a candidate who can guide the design of data, tools and standards and establish them in the broader neuroscience community. The ideal candidate will be focused on scientific and technical excellence, highly motivated, agile, and team oriented.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the design of an integration framework for neuroscience data and metadata, including neurophysiology, imaging, and behavior modalities
  • Standardize terminology, file formats, and data schema across multiple projects.
  • Guide the design of analysis tools and workflows, including integrations with third-party tools
  • High touch engagement with internal and external stakeholders to inform design decisions
  • Foster and manage community around Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics' data and tooling ecosystem

Required Education and Experience

  • 7+ years of product development or related experience
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, neuroscience, or a related field, or equivalent combination of degree and experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • PhD or Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Demonstrated strong data science skills
  • Experience collecting and analyzing large scale biological data sets
  • Working knowledge of neurophysiology concepts
  • Python and R programming skills
  • Strong publication record

Physical Demands

  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This role is currently able to work remotely due to COVID-19 and our focus on employee safety. We are a Washington State employer, and remote work must be performed in Washington State. We continue to evaluate the safest options for our employees. As restrictions are lifted in relation to COVID-19, this role will return to work onsite.
