Product Manager – Data and Technology

Product Manager – Data and Technology

The Allen Institute for Brain Science is seeking a Product Manager for Data and Technology Organization. The product manager will serve as the technology product owner and lead the task of definition of organization offerings based on stakeholders, users, and customer needs. We are looking for a consummate team player, adept at managing relationships, collaborating and influencing across a variety of organizational functions.

The ideal candidate should be prepared to make decisions with imperfect information, know how to lead without authority and be comfortable managing chaos, ambiguity and complexity. You must possess a unique blend of organization and technical savvy that includes a big-picture vision and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must also enjoy spending time with the customers, users and experts to understand problems and finding innovative solutions to address the needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collect requirements from customers and stakeholders
  • Drive requirements prioritization process
  • Closely work with development teams to clarify and communicate requirements
  • Develop proposals for the review by product review board
  • Develop and maintain proposals that makes a compelling case for continued investment into a technology area or product
  • Create user stories for current and future products based on the product needs
  • Manage the entire product life cycle from sunsetting legacy products to prototyping and testing new features/products and ideas
  • Drive buy-build-partner analysis, and where necessary, review potential partner relationships for the product
  • Know why and how the product is adding value, and drive changes to product and processes to create improvement.
  • Keep a finger on the pulse of competition, and develop strategies and tactics to create differentiation
  • Results-oriented with a passion for delivering successful projects and has a proven track record of increasing team’s velocity and effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of product development or management experience.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritize and drive decision-making.
  • Metrics-driven: Strong analytical and synthesis skills are a must, including the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information.
  • Experience with best practice agile scrum development and lean startup principles.
  • Must be a strong writer and public speaker in front of large, senior groups.
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A natural leader with strong communication and collaboration skills; able to navigate challenging group dynamics.
  • Able to set expectations and hold individuals and teams accountable to their commitments.
  • Detail-focused and organized, with an understanding that communication and transparency are critical to achieving success.
  • Adept at distinguishing what is important from what is noise and prioritizing accordingly.
  • Subject matter expertise in neuroscience is a big plus
  • Masters degree preferred
