Scientist I Single cell transcriptomics

The Allen Institute for Brain Science is seeking an exceptional candidate to join a Seattle-based multidisciplinary team within the Cell Types Program, which aims to define cell types in mouse and human brains. As a member of the Molecular Genetics team, the successful candidate will produces and analyze large-scale single-cell transcriptomics data from primary mouse brain tissue.

This candidate will provide analysis and interpretation of the acquired single-cell transcriptomics data. She/he will interface with other Institute teams to provide expert advice related to the transcriptomics data for other projects, and new directions or improvements of approaches for acquiring multimodal single-cell data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work within the Molecular Genetics team on experimental design, execution, and Research Associate training to generate large-scale single cell transcriptomics datasets.
  • Partner with other teams at the Institute to iteratively analyze single cell data and facilitate generation of transcriptomic cell type taxonomy in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate data organization and integration towards creation of multimodal cell type taxonomy.
  • Write and publish manuscripts, grant progress reports, and grant applications.
  • Present work internally and externally at conferences.
  • Evaluate new single-cell profiling platforms and techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in life sciences or computational biology (e.g., Neuroscience, Genomics, Genetics, or related field)
  • Knowledgeable in genomic data generation from primary tissues (rodent handling, dissection, single cell collection, molecular biology, and next generation sequencing).
  • Knowledgable about developmental neurobiology and systems neurobiology.
  • Knowledgeable about RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and/or ChiP-seq data
  • Proficiency in ptyhon or R, and Linux shell scripting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years' of experimental experience in genomic data generation from primary tissues (rodent handling, dissection, single cell collection, molecular biology, and next generation sequencing).
  • 1+ years' of experience working in a rodent model system studying a neurobiological problem in vivo (e.g., developmental neurobiology, systems neurobiology).
  • 1+ years' of computational experience working with RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and/or ChIP-seq data, preferably at the single cell level.
  • Ability to develop, test, implement, and share new experimental and computational tools quickly, in an iterative manner, after feedback from experimental, data production, and analysis teams.
  • Experience with additional programming languages (Perl, Matlab).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet aggressive timelines in a collaborative enivornment
